Director of Community Engagement and Resources

Chesterfield County, Virginia (Richmond-Metro Area), a recognized leader and award-winning local government, is seeking an innovative, strategically focused, and community-minded leader who will lead, plan, direct and oversee the Department of Community Engagement and Resources.

The director will provide key leadership in managing the day-to-day operations of the Community Engagement and Resources department to provide high quality services and programs including:

• Establish the goals and objectives for the Community Engagement and Resources Department and develop strategies and methods to enhance and encourage community engagement and volunteerism.
• Provide leadership in managing the daily operations of the Community Engagement and Resources Department by working collaboratively with the program managers to understand the needs of the department and delivery of quality programs and services.
• Develop, implement, and administer programs and services to connect all residents, including youths, older adults, underrepresented groups, and those with disabilities and special needs to county and community resources.
• Work effectively and collaboratively with citizen advisory boards, county departments, nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, elected officials, other key community stakeholders and the public.
• Increase awareness, interest, and knowledge of the county’s programs, activities and services available to the community through educational activities that promote transparency and open communication, fostering an informed and knowledgeable public.
• Promote volunteerism on a variety of public platforms to grow the volunteer base and foster relationships among county government, residents, businesses, and local and regional organizations to strengthen the community in which we live, learn, work and play.
• Manage the fiscal operations of the operating department, to include, administering the budget, securing grants or other funding for program and services; and monitoring performance standards and reporting requirements for grant funding.
• Maintain awareness of the changing needs and emerging opportunities in the county and identify opportunities to adapt existing approaches or develop new programs to increase community engagement.
• Monitor legislative issues and provide policy guidance and direction for regional and state initiatives relating to youth and aging concerns.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Public Administration, Business Administration,
or related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible managerial and leadership experience in human services including a minimum of five years in a supervisor/leadership capacity, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience working with youth, older adult, multicultural groups or disabled populations in local government is preferred. The Ideal candidate will have diverse leadership experience and show a high level of interest and successful community engagement experience. Good driving record, pre-employment drug test and extensive background check required.
