ICMA's Commitment to Professional Development

An important part of ICMA's mission and strategic plan is to advance the profession of local government management by providing opportunities for learning and skills enhancement. Through the ICMA University , local government managers and staff have a range of opportunities to increase their professional knowledge and skills.

The foundation for all of ICMA's work is the list of Management Practices, a set of competencies and skills developed by ICMA members and considered essential for every local government manager. All professional development opportunities are designed to address one or more of these competencies and skills.
