ICMA's Public Safety Program Excellence Award, established in memory of Philadelphia firefighter William H. Hansell, Sr., is awarded to a local government and its chief administrator for the most creative public safety program. In 1990, ICMA presented the award in the greater-than-20,000 population category to the Cable Council and eight Southwest Ohio city managers: Darryl Keaning, Centerville; Robert Walker, Kettering; John Weithofer, Miamisburg; James Harville, Moraine; J. David Foell, Oakwood; William R. Covell, Springboro; David E. Hamilton, Bellbrook; and G. Tracy Williams, West Carrollton. This article highlights the council's Tactical Crime Suppression Unit, an initiative to combat crime on a cross-regional basis. Learn more about ICMA's Annual Awards program.
