This May 2006 document by the National Association of State Chief Information Officers promotes best practices for public/private partnerships with an emphasis on information technology. Explored is the nature and definition of a partnership, the different types of partnerships governments and private companies enter into and the different rules that tend to govern each unique relationship. Since the publication of this document, the economic recession of 2008 has greatly accelerated the use of public/private partnerships by communities as a strategy of delivering government services at or near pre-2008 levels with lower costs.
