West Newbury, MA (4,598 pop.), a charming, affluent town with a rural character nestled along the scenic Merrimack River in Essex County is seeking a strong municipal leader and communicator able to build trust and delegate while showing compassion and empathy, to serve as Town Manager. The next Town Manager must have superior financial acumen and be a team leader with the ability to bring people together, work cooperatively with the various stakeholders, and be adept at managing personnel. The Town Manager must be willing to engage with an affluent, educated, and involved population that has high expectations for services and a desire to keep taxes low. The town has an AAA rating and FY27 operating budget of $19.66M. West Newbury has an Open Town Meeting form of government with a Town Manager and three-member Select Board. Preferred candidates will have a master’s degree, preferably in public administration or a related field, be a consensus builder, and be confident and willing to be proactive and take initiative.
Annual salary: $180K+/- DOQ. AA/EOE.
