SUMMARY

The Village of Glendale Heights is seeking an innovative, strategic, and experienced leader to serve as its next Assistant Village Administrator. The Assistant Village Administrator will play a critical leadership role in supporting the Village’s vision, priorities, and strategic plan.

This position leads cross-departmental initiatives, fosters collaboration, and drives efficiency and innovation across Village operations including managing and coordinating special projects, often involving multiple departments and external partners.

The role provides strategic and administrative support to the Human Resources Division, Community Development Department, Leisure Services Department, and Information Systems Division. This position will maintain positive public relations and effective working relationships maintained by the Department with the general public, community partners and other governmental agencies.

The Assistant Village Administrator also serves as Acting Village Administrator in the Village Administrator’s absence.

The Assistant Village Administrator reports directly to the Village Administrator and under the broad policy guidance and direction of the Village President and Board of Trustees. This position will offer strategic direction and administrative support to the Human Resources Division, Community Development Department, Leisure Services Department, and Information Systems Division, ensuring alignment with the Village’s goals and priorities including:

 Serving as a liaison with residents, businesses, other governmental agencies, and civic organizations, ensuring clear communication and responsive service.

 Organizing and advancing initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, adopting new technologies, enhancing public services, and fostering innovation.

 Guiding staff in strategic planning, goal-setting, and implementation of the Village’s Strategic Plan.

 Conducts research and analysis on complex issues; prepares reports and recommendations for the Village Administrator and Board

The successful candidate will bring:

 Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in public
administration, political science, business management, or a closely related field.

 Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in
public administration, political science, business management, or a closely related field
is strongly preferred.

 Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in local government,
including at least three years in a senior management, department head, or equivalent
leadership role.

 Strong knowledge of public management principles, practices, and applicable Illinois
municipal laws and regulations.

 Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to
build collaboration across diverse teams and stakeholders.

 Skilled in research, analysis, and report preparation; able to manage complex projects
from initiation to completion.

 Proficient in budgeting, strategic planning and organizational development.

Attendance at evening meetings is required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The annual salary range is $132,808 - $164,195, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Village offers a competitive benefit package, including Blue Cross HMO or PPO medical, dental and life insurance, membership in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), optional 457, deferred compensation plan, and a comprehensive package of paid time off. This position reports to the Village Administrator and is a member of the Village Executive Staff. The Assistant Village Administrator is appointed by the Village President and confirmed by Village Board of Trustees (reappointments every 4 years).

Selection process includes panel interview with the top qualified candidates based on application ranking of qualifications. Final candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check, and pre-employment drug screen.

All job offers are conditional upon the satisfactory outcome of pre-employment drug testing and submission of fingerprints for a complete background investigation. Employees are required to have their permanent residency within a 15-mile radius of the Village, unless an exception is approved by the Village Administrator.
