The City of Barnesville was established in 1831 and has a current population of 6,297.
The City is located approximately 55 miles south of Atlanta and 40 miles north of Macon, GA. It is the home of Gordon State College, current enrollment is 3100+.
The City has a council/manager form of government.
Barnesville is seeking a highly qualified, professional, innovative and visionary City Manager to successfully manage the City's future growth, while at the same time
protecting its hometown character through growth management policies.
The successful candidate must have a proven record of successfully leading city departments, department heads and personnel with proven proactive leadership and management, developing
annual city budgets, monitoring city revenues and expenditures, and keeping the elected body and the public informed of the city's financial position.
The successful candidate needs to have experience managing a municipal electric distribution system.
The City will require candidates to have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Management, or a closely related field.
A Master's Degree in Public Administration is preferred, with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as an assistant city manager or city manager. Added consideration will be given to full members of ICMA.
