HOURLY WAGE: $145,000 - $170,000

HOURS: MONDAY TO FRIDAY – 8:30am – 4:30pm

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Public Administration, Construction Management, or related field. Minimum 7 years progressively responsible public works or infrastructure management experience, Valid PA Commercial Drivers’ License Class B; Incident Command (IC) Training and Certifications Levels (Desired). Must have ability to remain on call 24 hours a day for emergencies. Minimum 5 years’ supervisory or management experience. Experience with capital project delivery and municipal operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Registration as a P/E. Has construction or civil engineering experience in the areas of streets, traffic, storm sewer, parks and public property.

GENERAL DEFINITION: The Director of Public Works is a strategic, operational, and community-focused leader responsible for managing Norristown’s critical infrastructure systems and public assets. This position oversees streets, stormwater, facilities, fleet, parks, traffic systems, and public grounds, while guiding the department through aging infrastructure, regulatory compliance, capital improvement planning, workforce development, and the ability to develop and execute annual operating and capital budgets; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, municipal and third-party engineers, other county, state and federal government and private entities, elected officials and members of the public. The Director serves as a key member of the Municipality’s leadership team and plays a central role in long-range planning, capital project delivery, grant-funded infrastructure initiatives, and emergency response operations. Director works under the direction of the Municipal Administrator and is appointed by council.
