This is the 2010 winning nomination for populations between 10,000 and 49,999 of Hickory, North Carolina's Operation No Vacancy program for the Community Sustainability Award. City Manager Mick Berry and Assistant City Manager Andrea Surratt are credited with helping develop a program that not only improves customer service to developers and citizens with an interest in investing in the City center, but simultaneously aids in the reinvestment of vacant buildings through the vacant building inventory tool and the Vacant Building Grant program.
