Since 2010, ICMA Student Chapters have prepared the next generation of managers for success in the public sector. The Student Chapters are now teaming up with the ICMA Learning Lab to co-create a new webinar series that focuses on important topics relevant to students and local government professionals.
In a time of shrinking budgets, reduced capacity, and the breakdown of civility, members of the public sector workforce are facing some of the greatest challenges in the history of the profession. In the second session of the Leading Into the Future series, Building Resilience for Challenging Times, a panel of ICMA members will provide advice and guidance for tackling these issues in your personal and professional life. They will discuss:
- The most common dilemmas and obstacles you can expect to encounter in local government
- How to prepare the next generation of local government professionals for burnout
- Tips for navigating the unique challenges of being a manager in transition
- Strategies for maintaining a healthy work-life balance
Presenters:
- Nathan Bassett, administrative services director, Colma, California; president-elect, CivicPRIDE
- William Whitson, interim town manager, Orange Park, Florida
- Fredi Hayes, former town administrator, Highgate, Vermont
