The City of West Hollywood is conducting a national search for an innovative leader with outstanding interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills to guide this organization and the community with confidence, poise, and a strong moral compass. This unique and incredible opportunity is a result of an upcoming retirement. The new City Manager is expected to join the organization in January 2026, ensuring a seamless transition of leadership. The City Manager serves as the chief administrative officer of the municipal organization and is responsible for all operations, including hiring and dismissing city staff. Currently, the City Manager’s Office is comprised of the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, and Deputy City Manager, with administrative support provided by the Administrative Services Department. On a citywide basis, there are 274 full-time equivalent positions, with an additional 100 part-time seasonal staff members. The City anticipates General Fund Revenue of $167.2 million and expenditures of a similar nature for Fiscal Year 2026. General Fund Balance is expected to be approximately $202 million.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or a closely related field and 8 – 10 years or more of executive-level municipal management experience. Experience as a City Manager, Assistant or Deputy/City Manager, or Department Director (from a larger-sized city) will be well received. A Master’s degree is a plus.
The City Council will offer a competitive salary for the region, supported by a multi-year employment contract and consistent with recent practices. The current City Manager’s annual compensation of $381,144 reflects his long tenured employment with the City of West Hollywood. Candidates should also be aware that the City is currently undergoing a city-wide compensation study. The City also offers an attractive benefits package including CalPERS retirement. Other benefits offered will include a moving and relocation allowance to encourage nationwide interest.
