City Manager
City of Stonecrest, GA
Sumter Local Government Consulting is pleased to be assisting Stonecrest, GA, in conducting a recruitment for their next City Manager.
Community
The City of Stonecrest, a vibrant and thriving community nestled in metro Atlanta, has made remarkable strides since its establishment in 2017. Despite being one of the state's newest cities, Stonecrest has quickly woven a rich tapestry of culture, commerce, and community spirit. It offers residents and visitors a unique blend of suburban comfort and urban convenience, all set against a backdrop of lush green spaces and picturesque landscapes.
The City of Stonecrest, Georgia, operates under a council-manager form of government, a structure that combines the political leadership of elected officials with the administrative expertise of an appointed city manager. This model is designed to promote professional management and responsive governance.
In this system, the Mayor and City Council are responsible for setting policies, enacting local laws, and representing the community's interests. The council comprises five members, each elected from one of the city's districts, and a mayor elected at-large. Elections are staggered to ensure continuity in governance. The council's duties include approving the city's budget, setting tax rates, and making land-use and development decisions.
The City Manager, appointed by the council, serves as the chief administrative officer, overseeing daily operations, implementing council policies, and managing city departments. This role ensures that the city's administrative functions align with the council's strategic objectives. The City Manager's responsibilities encompass a wide range of functions, including economic development, parks and recreation, community development, planning and zoning, code enforcement, city engineering, building permitting and land use, and business licensing. The City Manager also prepares and administers the city's budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic priorities.
The Role
The City of Stonecrest, Georgia, is recruiting an experienced, forward-thinking professional to serve as its next City Manager, the chief administrative officer. This position carries significant responsibility, as the City Manager is charged with leading daily municipal operations and helping shape the long-term direction of a growing and evolving community. Working closely with the Mayor and City Council, the individual selected will be expected to translate policy into action, ensure efficient service delivery, and promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and responsiveness throughout the organization.
The City Manager oversees all administrative functions of the city, including budgeting, procurement, personnel management, and operational performance across departments such as Economic Development, Parks and Recreation, and Community Development. This includes areas like planning and zoning, code enforcement, engineering, permitting, land use, and business licensing. Beyond operational leadership, the role requires strategic coordination—developing policies, implementing council priorities, and aligning resources with the city’s broader vision. Financial stewardship is a central expectation, as the City Manager must guide the budgeting process with discipline while positioning the city for sustainable growth.
Equally important is the responsibility to serve as a bridge between the organization and the community. The successful candidate will foster strong relationships with residents, business leaders, regional partners, and other stakeholders, ensuring open communication and strengthening public trust through consistent, ethical leadership. Ultimately, the city desires a leader who can guide Stonecrest through its next phase of development, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and help position the community for long-term success.
